Apply for a place

Apply for a place

Applications for a place on WRA Lead Partner 2023/24 courses must be made through the government teacher training Apply service. Applications for 2023/24 courses open on the 19th October.

The WRA will interview & offer places on a rolling basis throughout the year. Whilst in general, we will continue recruitment up until around the beginning of the June preceding course commencement, individual courses can be closed at any time during the recruitment cycle once WRA capacity for a particular subject has been reached.

The White Rose Alliance, together with our school & university partners are committed to safeguarding and promoting and protecting the welfare of young people and expects all members of staff to share this commitment.  Pre-course checks for applicants accepting a place with the WRA will be carried out by the respective accrediting university & will include an enhanced DBS check, Barred List check, plus identity & qualifications verification.

To help us in consideration of your application, please ensure you include details of all qualifications (not just the highest qualification you have in any particular subject). If your degree is not in the subject you are applying for, please ensure you include the reasons for your subject choice & details of the knowledge/experience you have & back this up in your Personal Statement. Please also explain any gaps in your employment history.

Please ensure that your referees are aware of your application. Applicants who have recently graduated (last few years) or are in the final year of their degree must include an academic reference from their university but for those applying after time away from university, we appreciate this may not be possible.

Each application is reviewed by the respective university and the WRA before a decision is made. For some subjects where limited places are available, the WRA may ask a candidate to complete an initial subject audit form upon receipt of their application (rather than after being invited to interview) to ascertain more information about the level & extent of the candidateĀ“s subject knowledge & experience, before making a decision on the application.

Successful candidates will be invited to participate in our interview process.

Interview Process
Interviews are arranged on a rolling basis, as & when applications are received. Candidates are welcome to visit the WRA & King JamesĀ“s School before or after their interview.

Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE)
Applicants whose degree is not in the subject for which they are applying to train to teach, are likely to be required to complete a Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) course as a condition of any offer made at interview. SKE is not available for all subjects. Further information regarding SKE & eligibility can be found on the Get into Teaching website.
